Abstract

This chapter identifies and describes the four fundamental components of intercultural communication: culture, communication, context, and power in relation to art. Culture can be considered as a set of learned and shared perceptions and values that involve emotions, expressed through dynamic and heterogeneous behaviors. Students need to understand the importance of communication as a symbolic process in which meanings are shared and negotiated, along with the complex relationship between culture and communication. This study will present elements regarding the physical and virtual contexts in which communication takes place, with particular emphasis on the role of power in intercultural communicative interactions.
